Donation and Reuse

If your electronics are in working condition and you’d like them to be considered for reuse or refurbishment, you may want to seek out a collection site that specifically engages in reuse.

The following Oregon E-Cycles collection sites have developed reuse systems for electronics. They employ triage procedures to assess items for reuse, train staff on refurbishment techniques, and maintain operational systems that support high-quality reuse.

Each collection site has different ways they prefer electronics to be prepared for potential reuse, and we encourage you to call and work with them directly if you have specific questions. In general, you are encouraged to (a) untangle all cords and cables, then tie them up neatly with a rubber band or twist tie, (b) attach power adapters to their associated devices, and (c) minimize extra packaging.

You may wish to remove personal or confidential information and data from devices prior to reuse or recycling. This includes data on computers, tablets, printers, and networking equipment. Some websites, such as DBAN and Eraser, provide information on wiping data.

It is your responsibility to clear your data from the items you drop off for recycling or reuse. Oregon E-Cycles assumes no liability for personal or confidential information and data left on such items. Note that reformatting your hard drive or deleting files does not necessarily destroy your information and data.
